Test 26.10.2008

  • temperature: 26°C
  • salinity: 1.024
  • pH: 8.35
  • nitrate (NO3): 1
  • nitrite (NO2): 0.02
  • ammonia (NH3/4): 0

I added the clean-up-crew today. 10 turbo snails and 5 hermit crabs. That´s gonna do for now.

A little closeup

And the “new” aquascaping. In the end I had to get rid of the tiny rock in the front, since it was the mother-rock of the Majano and no matter how long I went on new ones came out of that rock.

Now it´s time for finishing the cycling of the tank. It will be left like this for a while, awaiting the right waterparameters.

Test 14.10.2008

  • temperature: 25,5°C
  • salinity: 1.020
  • pH: 8.33
  • nitrate (NO3): 10
  • nitrite (NO2): 0.01
  • ammonia (NH3/4): 0.05

Thank God I have a SYSTEM MINI and not a SYSTEM 160XL:)

Every time the rock came into the light there were always new Majano-anemones popping up, and even in the sand and on the glass. I´ve found a way to use a sort of a metal-stick to put under their foot; they let go immediately and I just pick them up. So I will be looking out for them like every 10 minutes the following days:) I´m sure I´ll have to fight with them for a while, but I won´t give up. I´ll win!!

This is the rock today – not a Majano in sight:)

I found these tiny anemones growing on my rock. At first I thought it was good, but within a day they had covered just about all the rocks. I realized it is Majano Anemone, and is considered a pest because it takes over the whole tank.

I had to take up each rock and take out each and every one. It was impossible to count them afterwords, but there sure must have been 150 of them, if not more.

So far only testing for Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia.

Test 08.10.2008

  • temperature: 24°C
  • salinity: 1.021
  • nitrate (NO3): 5
  • nitrite (NO2): 0.01
  • ammonia (NH3/4): 0

LIVE ROCK ADDED

07Oct08

The Live Rock was added today.

Seven and a half kg of it. I don´t really want to be adding any more than that, ´cus I want there to be space left for the coral that will be added.

The rock was out of water for no more than an hour, so I don´t expect there to be any major readings on my tests for Nitrate, Nitrites or Ammonia in the nearest future.

Unfortunately there is no Live Sand available here, but I did add coral sand as well though…

The first day I started with one a half hours of lights switched on. I start carefully to avoid the blossom of algae as much as possible. Each day the lightingtime will be increasing with 30 minutes until I reach my wanted time of 8 hours of light/ day. I will of course adjust this later on as needed with whichever corals I´ll get.

Underneath is a picture of the aquascaping.

FILLED

05Oct08

The tanksystem is filled, the water is circulating between the sump and the tank, the R.O. reservoir is filled, the filtersocks, the filtermedia and synthetic fibre – everything is placed and running. Salinity is measuring 1.021, a little low for my taste. I will work it up. The system will run for a few days before I add the Live Rock.

Reverse Osmosis Water was added to the tank (about 75 liters to fill the system), salt was added (about two and a half kilograms of Instant Ocean salt), the Niveaumat top-up system was connected, the pH computer was connected and the heater (a Theo Heater) was added.
